Delays...

My kids had weather related school delays earlier this week, thanks mostly to a big snowfall over the weekend and then a smaller and equally disruptive snowfall early Tuesday morning. This got me thinking about delays in life. Many times we encounter delays during air travel, driving from place to place and even on the golf course (thanks to that slow group playing in front of you). Delays are common place and happen every day, but we normally have no direct control over these delays. They can be frustrating and annoying, but there’s rarely anything we can do to prevent or limit them.

In the design world, we work with lots of clients that encounter delays when dealing with state permitting, local permitting and even inspections during the construction process. Many of these delays are caused by factors out of their control, but sometimes they are caused by generally misunderstanding the process.
